Probiotics and prebiotics: beyond immunity and digestion

As we know, studies on probiotic strains have highlighted their interest in multiple health benefits: skin health, cardiovascular health, weight management… Among the 5 probiotic products finalists of the CPG Editor’s Choice Awards of the Supply Side West 2018, 2 of them showed innovative promises:

  • Naturewise Oral Health Probiotics, which as its name suggests protects the oral sphere, but also the upper respiratory tract.
  • Peptiva: a probiotic-based food supplement with a clinically proven effect on sleep.

Probiotics and prebiotics, by age or gender

Personalization has not spared the probiotics market! The proof with these 4 products:

  • Nutravance Probioregul Kids, which concentrates 4 probiotic strains in a drop format suitable for children under 6 years of age.
  • Cooper Actibiota, which offers a Kids reference, in addition to two other references (Balance & Defense, Cholesterol)
  • UAS Labs, an American laboratory that has been in existence for 40 years, and which launched a range for the whole family in 2017: children, women, adults, seniors.
  • Seed, a range of food supplements based on symbiotics. Its distinction? One version for women and one for men!

To go a step further, Thryve, an American specialist in personalized probiotics, has developed a probiotic supplementation program, according to its needs. After a questionnaire, stool analysis and DNA test, Thryve delivers a probiotic/prebiotic mix. Do you want to test it?

Foods for daily life

Probiotics are now commonplace in the world of food supplements. But this is less the case in our everyday food. If it is dairy products, and more particularly yoghurts, that have democratized the notion of probiotics, it is only now that it extends to the entire food universe.

  • Unilever launched Culture Republick in the United States: a range of ice creams containing probiotics.
  • Hungry Buddha (Supply Side West finalist): these are coconut chips containing probiotic strains (Ganeden BC30) and prebiotics.
  • And finally Kellogg’s with Happy Inside, which we told you about in our article dedicated to the new life of breakfast cereals
