Overview of the different NIS*: the Nutri-Score is doing well!

Major initiative to counter public health issues, the Nutri-Score is gradually making its way onto store shelves and is helping French (and European!) consumers make better food choices. He now crosses borders to settle in Belgium and Spain.

In competition with other NIS, it has proven its effectiveness through its simplicity. Supported by studies, it is the most effective way to guide consumers towards better nutritional quality food. Traffic Lights, Nutri-reference, SENS… They were many on the test bench. Inspired by other international ratings such as the Health Star Rating System or the Nordic Key Hole, these different INSs are more or less simplified.

Adopted by consumers, the Nutri-Score is not unanimously accepted by industry… Because it tends to stigmatize certain products! Based on 100 g, it disdains foods commonly consumed in small quantities. The Evolved Nutrition Label (ENL) has been proposed by six major manufacturers (now reduced to four after the departure of March and recently Nestlé) and is based on a portion size.

On the other hand, the Nutri-Score represents a real motivation for product improvement. Adopted today by more than 85 companies, it effectively leads distributors and industrialists to question themselves and clean up their ranges.

The Nutri-Score therefore offers good prospects and pushes for action but inevitably comes up against certain limits. Nutrikéo, in partnership with the MOM Group, is providing its expertise on the subject with its webinar « Everything you need to know about the Nutri-Score » (replay available until April)!
